Legislative Guest: Assembly Majority Leader Cecilia Aguiar-Curry
Newly appointed Assembly Majority Leader Aguiar-Curry shared a little bit about her rise from local government to the Assembly, and her passion for improving the quality of life for every Californian.
Drawing from her experience trying to improve local infrastructure and encourage affordable housing at the local level, Majority Leader Aguiar-Curry has long been a champion for ACA 1 – a constitutional amendment to lower the voting threshold for local bond measures on infrastructure and affordable housing from a 2/3 supermajority down to 55%.
ACA 1 will empower local governments and their communities to invest in desperately needed affordable housing and infrastructure by creating long-term, community-supported opportunities for financing it.
This year, with the support of many of you, ACA 1 passed out of the Legislature and will go before the voters on the November 2024 ballot!
Majority Leader Aguiar-Curry is actively seeking input on the specifics of ACA 1 from local advocates and housing leaders – to make sure it has the desired impact on the ground.
We are putting together a small committee of organizations that would like to collaborate on providing some feedback and suggestions, particularly on how best to include homeownership opportunities as an eligible use of ACA 1 funds. Please reply to this email if you are interested in being part of this conversation.
Sacramento Update
Last month, Assembly Speaker Rob Rivas assigned new Chairs and committee assignments. He put his commitment to solving the housing shortage and affordability crisis on display, assigning many of the state’s housing champions to key Chairships. You can find more on the new appointments here.
