Local Updates and Events
United Way of Greater Los Angeles
United Way of Greater Los Angeles is spearheading an LA County ballot measure that would generate $1.2 billion a year for homeless services, affordable housing preservation, housing production, and tenant protections.
If you’re based in LA County, the campaign for the measure is looking for signature gatherers and organizational endorsements.
LA Housing Solutions Volunteer Signature Collection - The Outreach Team
January 27 Mid-City Signature Collection Day!
If you are interested in learning more or getting involved, you can reach out to Aditi Shakkarwar, Housing Advocacy Manager, ashakkarwar@unitedwayla.org
New Way Homes
New Way Homes is leading the campaign against a Santa Cruz ballot measure that would significantly constrain new housing production, Measure M. The measure would increase inclusionary ordinance and require a public vote for rezones.
You can find more information about how to get involved on the No on Measure M website, or by reaching out to Diana Alfaro, Development Manager, diana@workbenchbuilt.com.
HWG Communications
Coming soon: Participant-only section of the website!
Will include all the resources available to participants, but in an easier to find and use format. This includes meeting notes and recaps, research, legislative updates, who to contact to get involved in legislation or local efforts, etc.
You will be able to access these resources from the homepage with a member password. The link and password will be shared when the Participant site is complete.
Please reach out to Emily at emily@cayimby.org if you have specific suggestions about what we should include.
HWG Event
We are planning an in-person HWG educational (C3) event for HWG members to engage with legislators in Sacramento this spring.
It will likely consist of a luncheon panel on an issue that is a priority for HWG members, and then meetings with legislators. Meetings will be focused on sharing the lived experiences of the communities you serve and policy solutions HWG members would like to see prioritized. The meetings will not include specific C4 bill lobbying.
We will work with participants to determine the desired topics to focus on, prepare talking points, and work with legislative offices to arrange meetings for the group to attend.
We know budgets are tight for many organizations and want to ensure financial constraints are not a barrier to joining. Stipends for travel expenses will be available on a first come first serve basis for those who would otherwise not be able to participate.
We are tentatively planning this event for April 9. If you are interested in participating, please respond to this email or reach out to Erin Boltz at erin@boltzpublicaffairs.com. If you would like to attend but the April 9 date is not possible, please let us know that too. We want to ensure as many HWG members are able to join as possible.
