Spotlight/Local Update: Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation

Maurilio provided an inside look at the unique challenges permanent supportive housing providers face, and shared his vision for a better financial framework for supportive housing and a look at TNDC’s plan for a local 2024 ballot measure to create more funding for affordable housing.

Summary of legislation that was shared:

  • SB 684 (Caballero) Entry-Level Homeownership Production: expedites the construction of small homeownership development projects.

  • SB 225 (Caballero) Community Anti-displacement and Preservation Program (CAPP): Creates CAPP, which creates the framework and technical assistance program within The Housing and Community Development Department to assist with the acquisition and rehabilitation of market rate units and conversion to deed-restricted affordable rental units.

  • ACA 1 (Aguiar Curry) Funding affordable housing: will lower the public vote necessary to pass a local bond measure or special tax that will fund affordable housing and public infrastructure projects from a two-thirds supermajority down to 55%.
