Special Guest: California State Treasurer Fiona Ma

  • Treasurer Ma gave an overview of what she has been working on as Treasurer, in relation to funding housing, over the last several years.

    • Her biggest focuses include new affordable home production and approving a record number of new projects, investing in rehabilitation of older existing affordable units, making her Department more efficient, the Dream for All Program, and more!

  • Treasurer Ma also championed AB 2873 with the Housing Working Group in 2022 – and there is now a report out on the implementation of the bill

  • Treasurer Ma also shared a lot of resources for getting in contact with the Treasurer’s office and accessing state savings programs, which are all linked in the meeting notesBe sure to spread the word about the free $$ available to start savings accounts!

Sacramento Update

  • The Governor’s signing deadline is next Monday, September 30.

  • On September 19, Governor Newsom signed a bipartisan package of housing bills, including SB 1123 (Caballero) and AB 2667 (Santiago).

  • The Prop 5 (ACA 1/ACA 10) campaign has fully launched!

    • Prop 5 will lower the vote threshold for local bonds funding infrastructure and affordable housing to 55% (these local bonds currently require a 2/3rds vote to pass)

    • Lots of resources to get involved and advocate in support of the measure are available on the new campaign website: www.YesonProp5.org
